12047 viewsKristen Stewart in SciFiNow Issue #10. Thanks Jenny! It reads:
FACTS: Kristen Stewart, last seen in The Messengers, has signed on to star in Catherine Hardwicke's big-screen adaptation of Twilight, the first book in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling young adult vampire-romance series. Melissa Rosenberg adapted the screenplay, and Summit Entertainment is looking to begin production in February.
COMMENT: Stewart is a fine bit of casting and should fit the role nicely, possessing all the strength and vulnerability the role needs, and Hardwicke has proven herself to be a dab hand at expertly handling teen-themed movies. Cross your fingers, this could be one to watch.

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer on vamps and peace
With her bestselling debut novel, teen vampire tale Twilight, about to be made into a movie, it comes as something of a surprise to learn that Stephenie Meyer isn't really into bloodsuckers on celluloid. "I'm not a vampire person," she confides in Red Alert. "Before I started writing about them, I didn't read vampire books and I've never seen a vampire movie. I'm not into horror and the dark, bloody side of vampires. My roots are in superheroes and Saturday morning cartoons. I'm fascinated with the idea of superpowers, and vampires was the closest I could think to them."
The film's to be written by Melissa Rosenberg, and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who, after working with teens on previous flicks 'Thirteen', 'Lords of Dogtown' and 'The Nativity Story', should have a pretty good handle on the material.
"Her films have this documentary kind of style," says Meyer. "She takes a special thing and tries to make it very real. That's perfect as far as I'm concerned."
2008's set to be a busy year for Meyer, with the publication of Breaking Dawn, the fourth Twilight instalment, followed by The Host, her first foray into adult SF. Inspired by SF classic The Invasion of the Body Snatchers - one film that Meyer HAS seen - it's set on a present day Earth conquered by an alien race (known as the Souls) who physically possess their victims. "One of the inherent questions of The Host is that the souls are better than we are," explains the writer. "That makes for a very interesting premise: if we could have world peace by giving away who we are, would that be a respectable trade?" - SFX.
